I love them. I seriously love them.

They create

They give life

They destroy

They hug

They flood

They refresh

They sink

...and we could go on and on, I'm sure you also have your own definitions. I know. We all know the power of words. We recognize it and all of us have experienced it. There is a Japanese story that I love:

In a town in Japan there was a brave samurai. He was strong, big, very skilled with his katana, precision was fatal for anyone who faced him. His pride was equally enormous and convinced of his power and that he was totally invincible, he continually sought battles to win and confirm his dominance with the katana. In this town, the hurried people were gathering in the center of the square. When the samurai asked what was happening, they answered that they were listening to a great teacher who was highly respected by everyone in the region. This intrigued him and he went to see what was happening. In the center of the square he saw an old man with a gentle expression sharing teachings, one of them was about the most powerful weapon of all. The words. The offended samurai approached the humble teacher, shouting What stupidity!!! The most powerful weapon is my great katana, nothing can defeat it, you know nothing about power. The teacher looked him straight in the eyes and responded. It is easy to see that someone like you would say that comment, it is easy to see that you are just a bastard, a brute without any training, your ignorance only makes you look clumsy and your skills are really crude, an absolute son of a bitch.

This enraged the samurai, who, red with anger and brandishing his sword, headed to attack the good man, telling him: Old man! Today your life comes to an end!!!

The teacher interrupted his attack by saying

Great samurai, forgive my life, I am an old and clumsy man who possesses nothing and my mind constantly makes me say stupid things, I recognize your power and your unquestionable ability, I only ask that you allow me to live in my misery, you will know how to forgive with your noble heart of warrior?

The samurai stopped and replied that of course he accepted their excuses. The old man stood up and looking directly into his eyes answered him.

My friend, are words powerful or not?

The samurai finally understood how words had the power to enrage him and in a matter of minutes, calm him down.

ree

It's a story to think about, don't you think?
